There are several major cities and train-accessible destinations from central Barcelona, such as Sitges, Montserrat, Girona, Tarragona, etc. We weren't able to experience them, but you can find several train trip ideas here.
During our stay in Barcelona last February, we had the opportunity to discover the surroundings of the city for a day. You can find the complete itinerary of our trip to Barcelona in the article below.
10 km from the center of Barcelona by air lies a rather unusual nature reserve, as it houses the Barcelona El Prat airport in its center! Classified as a Natura 2000 site, the Llobregat Delta Nature Reserve is located on the migratory route of birds in western Mediterranean, and therefore contains one of the largest numbers of different bird species on the Iberian Peninsula.
The Llobregat Delta Nature Reserve is divided into two parts located on either side of the airport. The first part, 'La Ricarda', located south of the airport, is smaller and is equipped with small paths that wind between small waterways. Each path leads to large observation points built at water level that allow discreet observation of the wildlife.
🥾 Trail Length: 4.6 kilometers
🗺️ Itinerary 3: The official itinerary PDF is available for download here.
🕒 Hours: Opening hours vary depending on the season. You can find the schedule on the official Delta de Llobregat website.
🅿️ South Parking - La Ricarda: Carrer 1 Poligon, 27 in Viladecans (Barcelona)
The second part 'Espais Natural del Riu', north of the airport, is larger and its wide paths cross the entire reserve from side to side amidst reeds, bamboo, and small groves that cover the reserve. Like the first part, this one is very well-maintained and contains numerous observation points; a reserve map available at the reception desk offers two different routes to discover them all!
🥾 Walk length: 3 kilometers for route 1 and 5.2 kilometers for route 2.
🗺️ Route 1 & 2: The official route PDF is available for download here.
🕒 Opening hours: Opening hours vary depending on the season. You can find the times on the official Delta de Llobregat website.
🅿️ Parking North – Espais Natural del Riu: Camí Reial de València in El Prat de Llobregat (Barcelona)
Located in the province of Barcelona, about thirty kilometers by air from the center of Barcelona, the town of Sitges is a beautiful, authentic seaside resort.
Located on the Costa Daurada, Sitges is distinguished by its often blue and white houses that are situated on both sides of its charming little streets. Despite its small size, the city boasts numerous monuments with architecture inherited from the Middle Ages and the Roman era. We recommend visiting the Cau Ferrat Museum, the Palau de Maricel, and the Church of Sant Bartomeu, three must-sees in the town of Sitges.
We spend several hours strolling through the streets of Sitges and enjoying the colors of the sun as it begins to set.
🅿️ Free parking in Sitges: You can park here for free, but the parking is quite small and it was full when we went there in February.
🅿️ Paid parking in Sitges: We parked at the Retiro Parking in the city center. Be careful, the access was quite narrow, we do not recommend it with a large car. Prices: ± 4€ per hour.
🚆 Getting to Sitges by train: 35 minutes from Barcelona.
Dominating the city of Barcelona, Mount Tibidabo was chosen in the early 20th century to build, at its summit, the Sacred Heart of Jesus Temple, a Catholic church and basilica. If the 360° view of the Barcelona area is already very impressive, the enormous and imposing bronze statue placed at the top of the church makes this temple a majestic place!
The presence of an amusement park at the foot of the temple is very surprising, and if we forget that it slightly spoils the view, it adds even more originality to the place.
🅿️ Parking at Tibidabo : We parked at this paid parking to see the Temple of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at sunset. Prices from 0.072€ per minute or 13€ per day (from 3 hours)
ℹ️ More information on how to get to Tibidabo on the official website www.tibidabo.cat
