Chrissi Island, Greece
Chrissi Island is located about ten kilometers from Ierapetra off the south coast of Crete. In this article, we take you on a day-long exploration of this paradise island!
Chrissi Island, being a fairly well-known destination, it is easy to find tickets departing from the city of Ierapetra to get there by boat.
On our side, we decided to go with Christina boat which offers the crossing on its boat that can accommodate between 25 and 30 passengers.
So meet at the port of Ierapetra for departure in the late morning, the return taking place in the late afternoon.
Christina Boat offers several options for an excursion to Chrissi Island.
At the time, 2 options existed:
The first option offers a round trip for 25€/person. This option will allow you to arrive on the island late morning, stay there approximately 4 hours before taking the boat back to Ierapetra. On the return journey, the boat will stop offshore where you can enjoy fruit and do some snorkeling around the boat.
The second option (which we chose) offers, for 50€/person, a catering service in addition to what the first option offers. You can therefore return to the boat 2 hours before leaving Chrissi Island to enjoy a delicious meal consisting of various salads, fruits, and typical Cretan dishes in the open sea. Once the meal is finished, you can dive from the boat to enjoy the sea and snorkel around the boat.
Whichever option you choose, Gala will welcome you warmly on his boat and will be happy to show you this island!
Chrissi Island is a protected nature reserve, 7km long and 2km wide. There are very few facilities, so visiting the island is peaceful and respects its ecosystem.
After crossing the island, we'll spend several hours on the island's largest beach enjoying the sun and swimming in the still-warm sea (late October) amongst various corals and fish.
After a few hours spent on the beach, we head back to the boat to enjoy the rest of what was included in the package we chose.
On board, Gala had prepared a delicious meal during which she shared her knowledge about Crete and the island of Chrissi. After the meal, Gala invited us to jump off the boat to swim amongst schools of fish in the open sea.
After enjoying the beauty of Chrissi Island, having a delicious meal at sea and swimming amongst the shoals of fish, it was time for us to head back to Ierapetra to return to the solid ground of Crete.
The return journey will be worthy of what we experienced that day, as a magnificent sunset will accompany us during the crossing.
