Tiny House ‘La Ruche’: Unusual accommodation in Belgium

At the base of the tiny house project 'La Ruche', 3 friends passionate about travel, nature, and adventure. After a trip to the Slovenian mountains, they want to create a tiny house and allow everyone to experience the unusual in the heart of nature.

After taking a gravel road through the woods by car, the tiny house is visible in the distance. We walk the last few meters separating us from 'La Ruche' along a path marked by lights. We discover along the way the two beehives that gave this unusual accommodation its name.

In wet weather, we recommend wearing good shoes, as the meadow is often wet and muddy.

We collect the keys from the box (thanks to the instructions sent beforehand by email) and discover the warm and modern interior of the tiny house. The warmth of the wood-burning stove welcomes us upon arrival, and we take off our shoes before exploring the layout of this unusual space.

On the right, there is the bathroom area with an Italian-style shower, a small sink, and a composting toilet. To accompany us during our stay, we have a soap & shampoo duo from Be Tree for a more ecological approach. These are zero-waste, vegan, and made from 100% natural ingredients.

Opposite the entrance, we find a large kitchen area with 4 gas burners, a sink, a fridge (which even contains a mini-freezer) and everything needed to cook. Continuing on, we discover a high table opposite two windows overlooking the outdoor area.

At the end of the tiny house, is the living area or small living room. We find there a sofa (which can be converted into a bed for a 3rd person), a coffee table and a pretty shelf containing a bluetooth speaker, travel books and practical guides to explore the surroundings, board games and some jars of honey made with the honey produced by the hives on the property.

In the middle of the tiny house, stands the ladder that allows us to access the mezzanine bedroom. It consists of a large double mattress and a pretty window offering a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside.

The space is so well-arranged inside that you don't realize you're actually in a mini-house, even for Romain's ninety centimeters. And the many windows on the outside allow us to always be immersed in the surrounding nature wherever you are in the tiny house.

The exterior of the accommodation is also designed to enjoy nature as much as possible during the nice weather. A large terrace, a lounge area, a small vegetable garden, a swing in the tree and a magnificent fire pit area for barbecues and long evenings by the fire with your loved ones, family or friends. A great opportunity to rediscover 'The Hive' in the summer!

Without WIFI and no TV, 'La Ruche' truly invites us to disconnect and enjoy the present moment. We start the evening with an aperitif accompanied by beers Bon Secours which were waiting for us chilled upon arrival. We complete the moment by trying several of the board games available on site (special mention for the nice selection of games for 2). We had so much fun with Exploding Kittens that we ordered it for ourselves when we got home 🙂

After a simple dinner, cooked in the tiny house, we go to bed and fall asleep to the gentle melody of the rain drops.

The next morning, we wake up gently and enjoy the full breakfast included in our reservation. There's something for everyone (sweet & savory) and it includes eggs, bread, jam, speculoos paste, yogurt, apple juice, etc. It can be accompanied by coffee, tea or herbal tea which are available in the tiny.

We take advantage of this time-out to the last minute, a big advantage of a **late check-out** at 11:30, before plunging back into the daily routine.

The Tiny house ‘La Ruche’ is located in Vieusart in Brabant Wallon, a few minutes drive from exit 9 (Corroy-le-Grand) of the E411 and near the town of Louvain-la-Neuve. It is accessible by public transport by taking bus 33 towards Chaumont-Gistoux from Louvain-la-Neuve train station.

Many hiking trails are to be discovered in the surroundings. There is a dedicated guide to them in the tiny house library. Unfortunately, the weather was not on our side and we do not have a particular one to recommend to you.
