Wezemaal, Belgium
Located in the commune of Rotselaar, the Wijngaardberg is a nature reserve. It features orchards, small vineyards, forests, and pastures. A pleasant mix that creates an unusual landscape to discover in all seasons.
Just 30 minutes from Brussels, this hike is perfect for getting some fresh air on a sunny day. The varied landscapes offered by the Wijngaardberg hike will transport you to another world for a moment.
The starting and ending point of the hike is in the forest, where you will find a small parking area accessible from the N19. Once your boots are on (which are necessary if it rained recently), we begin our hike. The first straight line is steep and requires some effort to reach the plateau. Once at the summit, you can see the first vineyards on the right. They are a minority along the route but make the region famous.
If you wish to delve deeper into the subject, there is the Hageland Visitor Centre. Wine tastings are organized there, and a small shop will allow you to leave with one or two bottles of regional wine.
📍 Address • Kerkstraat 6, 3111 Wezemaal (Rotselaar)

Continuing our journey to the left, we take the small paths through the apple orchards. In spring, the orchards are colored with a pale pink with the blossoming of various fruit trees. A special moment to discover the Wijngaardberg, straight out of a fairy tale.
On a slope of the Wijngaardberg, we cross a few four-legged companions who graze peacefully in the pastures. This gives access to a viewpoint over the neighboring hill.
The loop ends by following the orchards between moorland and forest. If you are quiet and calm, you might see some curious birds on the bushes.
