Meldert, Belgium
Belgium is full of small corners to discover. This time we take you to Hoegaarden to discover the surroundings of the village of Meldert.
The start of our walk takes us to the Meldert Castle park.
We walk a few hundred meters on a path winding through the trees before discovering the magnificent Meldert Castle.
Built in 1845, this chateau has often changed owners, belonging to various counts, being occupied during World War II, bought by the Aumôniers du Travail before becoming the new establishment of the Sint-Jans college.
We continue our walk in the park, well-maintained to keep our feet dry.
Back at our starting point, we cross the village to reach a small wood located between the fields.
After a few kilometers through the fields and into the woods, we arrive at the Kunstwerk Pallox, a monument honoring the surrounding orchards that offers a very beautiful view of the entire region.
We stay in place for a few moments to observe the birds that are peeking out with their beaks despite this duck-like cold.
We retrace our steps and return through the heart of the forest that we had followed on the way. The undergrowth is damp and we advise you to wear good boots to avoid problems.
After crossing the last pastures, we are back to our starting point after a short walk of 7.5km.
