Profondeville, Belgium
Profondeville is a village (and a municipality) on the Meuse River located between Namur and Dinant in Wallonia. At the beginning of April, we organized a weekend trip to the Namur region to discover the exceptional natural heritage of the region. We stayed one night at the Vedette Hotel in Profondeville.
Even though it's a fairly popular walk, it offers an exceptional view of the Meuse Valley.
We start the hike through the residential streets towards the Seven Meuse viewpoints. The path climbs steeply in this section, and we even get little encouragement signs from the town.
The incline becomes progressively gentler, and there we are at the summit! We then descend onto a path amongst the trees, and at the end, we arrive at a breathtaking panorama: the Seven Meuse viewpoints. Its name comes from the fact that at this location, you can observe 7 meanders of the Meuse. It's a bit like playing the game of Spot the Difference to find them all 😉
On the spot, we can also observe a take-off ramp for paragliders (and hang gliders). A few meters further on, there is the 7 Meuses hotel-restaurant. Their outdoor terrace offers a unique view of the Meuse valley. The perfect spot to enjoy a drink in the sun. When we were there, the restaurants were closed in Belgium due to the pandemic.
We enjoy the view to eat our picnic and take advantage of the few sunbeams that appeared.
After this beautiful break, we begin the descent towards the Meuse through the woods. We discover a nature that gently blossoms with a few butterflies following us along the path.
Once arrived at the village of Rouillon, we follow the Meuse to the car. A timeless moment, calm, on the towpath along the Meuse. We observe the huts, manor houses, and churches that are on the opposite bank. It is on this beautiful note that this hike in Profondeville ends.
We loved the view from the 7 Muses so much that we went back for the sunset. The warm, colorful lights made the place truly magical.
To extend our escapade to Profondeville, we had booked a night at the Hôtel Vedette. A former 19th-century manor house recently renovated into a modern 4-star hotel. After a warm welcome from the owners, we discover the Félicien suite. It overlooks the garden and bathed in the soft light of this sunny afternoon.
After a peaceful night, we woke up at the same time as the rain (or rather the Belgian downpour 😅) We took our time for breakfast and enjoyed the local produce offered on site.

Given the worsening weather, we preferred to return home. We will come back to discover the region and explore the paths on foot or by bike. If you have any other questions about our trip to Profondeville, don't hesitate to write to us in the comments, by email or via our social networks ❤️
