Auray, France
During our stay in the Morbihan in Brittany, we went to discover the town of Auray. This medieval city full of charm and its renowned port of Saint-Goustan were a real favourite for us, we detail our visit in this article!
The medieval city of Auray is a small town located in the Morbihan department in Brittany.
As soon as we enter the town, we are surrounded by local stone buildings, half-timbered houses and buildings with a lot of character, like the tourist office located in the former chapel of the Augustines.
Following our visit to the tourist office, we picked up a map with a tourist route that shows us the city of Auray and its hidden corners.
We wander through the city's small streets, charmed by its authentic houses, its small shops and its squares full of character.
While wandering through the city, we discover the Saint-Gildas church, the Holy Spirit chapel which currently hosts exhibitions, and the city's narrow streets, some of which feature houses that are almost 500 years old!
Following the plan received at the tourist office, we take a small alley leading to the most impressive viewpoint in the city: the castle belvedere, offering a panorama of the Saint-Goustan harbor.
We leave the château's belvedere, heading towards the port. We take the Saint-Goustan bridge and its 4 arches dating from the 15th century to arrive at the port where we continue our little tourist stroll along the Auray river.
The walk continues towards the Saint-Sauveur church, through narrow streets, sometimes very narrow, filled with details that give the place its unique charm.
Back on Saint-Sauveur Square, we cross the Saint-Goustan bridge again to return to the city center of Auray and end our tourist escapade in this beautiful town.
During our visit to Auray, we decided to eat in the Saint-Goustan port on Saint-Sauveur square. Many restaurants line this square, enough to satisfy all desires!
We chose to stop at the Restaurant l’Armoric, which offers a brasserie-style menu.
On our return from the Saint-Goustan port, we also took a little ice cream break by stopping at l’Atelier du Château which offers delicious homemade ice cream!
There are many short-term (1 hour 30 minutes) car parks at the entrance to Auray, we decided to park our car at the Parking Centre 3, which is a free parking lot with no time limit located 500 meters from the city entrance.
